Another reason to be a Proud Canadian: Jenn Grant

It has been a while since I have posted my musings on the pages of Slowcoustic – thanks to Sman for inviting me back☺ Truth be told I have been lost in the archives of great Canadian artists (be sure to check out the post on Jan 30 for a refresher of the greatness).
On February 3rd we will once again be privilege to one of the finest talents to come out of Halifax, or Canada for that matter – the incomparable Jenn Grant will release her third album, “Echoes”. It doesn’t take long to realize how special this Ms. Grant is. Within seconds of listening to “Everybody Loves You” you will be hooked (and you will likely believe that yes everybody does love you). Her voice (outside of being angelic) is strong yet increasingly delicate. Her lyrics are powerful and filled with heartache, love and a touch of whimsy. A very talented group accompanies her and if we are judged by the company we keep – it must be said that this is a group we should all want to know.
In a tribute to another great Canadian artist, Jenn covers Neil Young’s “Only Love Can Break Your Heart” – phenomenal. The album covers the many highs and lows we have all experienced. Grant does more than sing, she tells a story – a true testament to the human spirit – one of the many songs that will keep you hoping / wishing / coming back for more is “Where Are You Now”.
Don’t limit yourself to Echoes – pick up 2005’s independently released “Jenn Grant & Goodbye Twentieth Century” and 2006’s “Orchestra For the Moon” you will not be disappointed.
The very lucky ACK & Co. from HeroHill had the opportunity to interview Jenn Grant (lucky SOBs out east!) – check out what she had to say here.
The kind folks at Six Shooter have given us two songs to share with you. Be sure to stop by the official Jenn Grant website by clicking the new album cover below.
Echoes will leave you exhilarated. That’s. All.
Enjoy,
~Judes
