Get on board, ya hear me? Great Lake Swimmers are going places, and you better get some back story prior to March 31st official release date for their new release “Lost Channels”.
Like every great band/artist, there is always the “prior to” or even the “lead up to” the great album. This may be the year for GLS with the album, as it is getting a fair amount of press months prior to the official release – Hell, Stereogum dropped a promo track already! While I haven’t heard the complete album, I do feel that the album may have Tony Dekkar’s recognizable voice, but the sound may be a bit more “full band” as compared to some of the previous work. This has been a bit of the journey I have noticed over the last few years and includes the previous release “Ongiara”. Still solid tunes, but I sometimes pine for the earlier recordings – maybe I need to listen more. Don’t get me wrong, this album is sounding solid and I will definitely pick up a copy as, come on…it’s Great Lake Swimmers – this is some quality Canadiana.
So, everyone up to speed? New album coming out at the end of March, Stereogum has the promo track for “Pulling A Line” (I will not post it, go visit the fine folks over yonder, sign up for the “Gum Drop” – no brainer). I wanted to ensure we had some “back story” for when you all run out and pick up a copy of “Lost Channels” (I wonder if it was a television or some sort of waterway reference…). Let’s check out some of the previous works of these Great Lake Swimmers on this fine Friday!!

I only recently came across the Great Lake Swimmers, through the song “Moving Pictures, Silent Films” which is absolutely beautiful.
I’m gradually working my way through their albums and am delighted to hear there is another on the way.
