Don Brownrigg’s Wandering Songs

On February 7, 2009 by slowcoustic

Newfoundlander Don Brownrigg wants to travel far. From the mountains and rivers of the Codroy Valley to his newfound homestead in Halifax, his musical meanderings are catalogued in his wonderful debut release “Wander Songs”. Don creates non assuming folk-pop music that has spirit, is sincere and heartfelt in its delivery.

“Wander Songs” contains 11 songs of pensive, self-reflective, and morose imagery.

My fellow co-blogger Trini over at You Crazy Dreamers put me in the direction of Don Brownrigg with her post and interview.  Being Canadian, it can be a touch embarrassing to have a friend from another country advising me of “local” Canadian talent.  Regardless, I stand before you rosy cheeked and bashful – presenting you a bit of East Coast Canada talent.

Sitting back on my Western Canadian porch, I often see “East Coast” music as slightly Celtic, folksy and even full of boot stompin’ tavern closing experiences.  I don’t know why I think this way, I just do – any mellow East Coasters can chime in at any time.  This leads me to Don Brownrigg – while from the Maritime side of Canada, he blends a toned down folk that could be found across the globe.  There are still moments where “the rock” peeks through, if only in his choice of guest vocalists – notably Jenn Grant and Rose Cousins.  I guess you now know the “Canadian East Coast” artist that I was researching when I came across my song of the night from a few days ago (that Ryan Adams cover see here)…

Three tracks are included below from the 2008 album “Wander Songs”, I hope you enjoy.

Beautiful music – my CD has had MANY hours of use and I’ve bought extras as presents. I am so proud to have such talent succeeding from our Codroy Valley home. Looking forward to any new CD’s. Congratulations!
