Haha, no problem. I've always regarded his first two albums, 'I Will Return' and 'Long May You Run' as his best, but now I have to put 'Year in the Kingdom' on that same lofty level. I never thought he'd be able to equal those first two, but the man consistently amazes. I feel like this guy is going to be releasing matchless music for a long time to come, which is exciting.

I know of what you speak. Many listen and while still liking hear only a guy with an acoustic guitar, but if you truly enjoy it, it becomes soo much more.

This album and his "I Will Return" album from '05 (I think) are the pinnacle of this hushed sound.

Thanks for seeing things my way RL! ;-)

You ain't kidding. J. Tillman never ceases to amaze me. I did a list of my favorite songs from 2009, and Tillman took the top 4 spots and 8 of the top 14. I relistened to all my favorites and it just became clear that Tillman is simply that much better than everyone else. Freakin' amazing. It's hard for me to pick a favorite from "Long May You Run," as every single song is a stunner. If I were forced to choose though, "Casualties" would definitely beat or near the top. I don't know how he does it. There's nothing complex, nothing I can pinpoint that makes the song (and almost all his other songs) so emotionally moving, so poignant. It's like when you watch a 2-hour movie and there's this amazing emotional climax near the end, only with J. Tillman, you get 40 straight minutes of that kind of emotional potency.
