Folk Music For What Lies Ahead Compilation Sees Release Today!

Today sees our label release of the compilation “Folk Music For What Lies Ahead” on Yer Bird Records!  We are very excited to be finally releasing the album that consists of 18 “new, rare & unreleased” songs from a fantastic collection of talented musicians from across the globe.  The title of “What Lies Ahead” is kind of a play on the fact that the label is new to us since assuming it in 2010 from previous owner and friend Morgan King (who also did the artwork for the CD packaging!) and where we will go with actually having a music label.  It is also my way of trying to figure out what is ahead for “folk” music since it has been assumed into daily musical reference (kind of like “indie” 5 years ago and “alternative” 15 years ago) – who knows!  As folk tends to take up a wider seat at the musical table, the artists on the compilation tend to span from traditional to gothic to bluesy to “pop” with numerous other aspects of what folk music can be.  So with that, see the full line up:

We also partnered with a children’s charity (Music 4 Hunger) and will be donating a portion of each CD sold to the music based charity organization.  It is a great cause that has been close to us personally and it deserves all the help we (and you) can give.

You can purchase (digitally) direct from us via our friends at MusicFloss by clicking here or you can buy a physical CD (GASP!) by visiting Yer Bird here.  For those that purchase a physical CD, there is an insert with a coupon code for our Yer Bird Records store that ensures all your future purchases will cost you less than listed!

Take a track with you today, one that I am personally excited to have on the project from Paul Masson.  I truly enjoyed his EP from last year and he agreed to re-record a fully acoustic version of what could be his signature song “My Girl Baltimore”.  It is stunning and a favourite of the Slowcoustic/Yer Bird Records crew.

“My Girl Baltimore (Acoustic)” – Paul Masson, from 2010’s “Folk Music For What Lies Ahead” Compilation
