Song obsession courtesy of Samantha Savage Smith

Just a quick one today, but it comes with a punch to the gut.  One of the best things is to get obsessed with a musician when you are a music junkie.  Samantha Savage Smith does this to me.

After listening for a little over a year (she was introduced to me from one of my counterparts in France – finding out about local talent from someone thousands of miles away…yeah…), I finally got to see her play (twice) and sit down and talk with Samantha at this year’s Calgary Folk Fest.  We did a bit of an informal interview with her and more of that will surface hopefully when I get a chance to tell you all about her upcoming album that I anxiously await.  Samantha has something about her that you might have a hard time placing – it might be her saucer like eyes that often hide behind glasses, her unique almost classic torch song voice or it is just that you want to keep listening when each song ends.  The new album (of which there are samples on her Bandcamp and MySpace pages) should officially surface soon and it will be one to keep an eye out for.

For now, please watch and listen along with me to Samantha Savage Smith (no relation).  The below video is from the great folks at Shot at The Dark and Calgary Is Awesome (see more here).

The above song is “You Always Come To Mind” and is currently on her BandCamp Page as a free download – so get it!!

Locals will be able to see her next at the Ironwood on August 29th – see here for more info.

Visit and purchase some Samantha, why don’t you?
