Sunday Cover: Benjamin Francis Leftwich’s version of “Rebellion” from Arcade Fire

Just a quick one with a cover that has been making the rounds lately from Benjamin Francis Leftwich of Arcade Fire’s “Rebellion”.  BFL has a new EP (we had the video for the lead off track “Atlas Hands” posted a month or two ago – see here) and what better way to spread the word about this great young artist than to put a nice cover of a IT band for the holidays!  It seems to be working, but don’t worry folks it is for a good cause;  the new A Million Mile Out, 4 track EP is pretty tasty – so think about it as well.

BFL can get a little too slick-sounding sometimes for my tastes, but I like this cover. Not much of an Arcade Fire guy myself, but it’s amazing what an acoustic, folky makeover can do for a song. Those synths and backing vocals sometimes threaten to veer into new-age schmaltz, but BLF keeps on the right side of that line on this song.
