Wolves by Phosphorescent by Strand of Oaks

One of my favourite songs in the last decade is Wolves by Phosphorescent.  It just is.  The song echoes, pines and just hits the spot.  The song is from the album “Pride” released on Dead Oceans in 2007 and it still kills me, but it is the death march.  The combination of the ukulele and the scratchy wounded vocals of Matthew Houck create a epic Slowcoustic track for the all time list.

Recently good friend Tim Showalter, or as you know him Strand of Oaks, recorded a cover of this track over on WXPN’s “The Key” in Philadelphia where he now calls home.  The song was part of the Folkadelphia Sessions via Y-Rock last December.  So as expected, I enjoy this cover quite a bit and I am also glad that Tim did a great job with it as this is sacred ground folks.  So thanks to Matt Houck for creating the song, thanks to Tim Showalter for covering it and thanks to XPN for sharing it.  Listen below:

Bonus is a live rip of the track from Phosphorescent’s Black Cab Session from a while back.  Tell me this doesn’t kill?

Thanks for sharing. Like you, I’m a big fan of the original song. This cover does it justice and is a worthy listen on its own. It’s always cool when that happens!
