I have been on a bit of a Jennifer O’Connor kick lately ever since she went and put a ‘sale’ on her newest album I Want What You Want a few weeks back. There are more than a couple of stunning tracks on the album which started the my ravenous listening. I then landed on “Lullaby”. I stopped and found a new favourite Jennifer O’Connor song.
The song is actually a B-side from her 2008 album Here With Me which was my introduction to her music in the first place. Now, I am not going to get all angry on why it wasn’t on the album as I feel an album is a personal thing to the artist (really….is it Sandy?) so I take it as a “bonus” track instead of a “B-side” which implies a lesser song…I guess. So it is a bonus song or a companion to the album and it is fantastic. The song sounds like a song entitled Lullaby would sound that gets posted on a blog like Slowcoustic – so it is a song that could actually be a Lullaby, go figure (her voice is literally like a blanket as it wraps you inside it, wow). Listen for yourself.
So, now that I got your attention, you should also look into her latest album on her bandcamp as well (here). Need a little push? The opening track alone should send you in a tizzy to ensure your PayPal account is up to date.
So do yourself a favour and start stalking JO’C already. You can find her on her Website, Bandcamp (where she is uploading some free demos over the summer), her own Kiam Records label and make sure you check out a recent Daytrotter session.
