The future music model – Colby Stead

I can’t say that I know of any more music or “discover” more artists than any other person who is actually looking.  I say this as a good friend of mine Olivier over on You Crazy Dreamers guided me to one of his personal favourite artists in Colby Stead.  I have to say thanks for it now after getting a chance to listen to Mr. Stead and finally seeing what I was guaranteed was there.

I wanted to post on Colby Stead as not only is he a very talented singer/songwriter, folk style artist, he has provided me/us/the world a great opportunity and I wanted to ensure that if you didn’t know, you now will.  Brought to my attention from Olivier’s recent post on Colby Stead (here), I have found out that Colby has offered up almost his entire discography (from what it seems) – including demos for public consumption!  If for a simply donation.  We know a donation based music transaction is getting quite popular and only time will tell if it is a true successful endeavor.  I, for one, believe it is a step in the right direction of music sales/distribution and for lack of a better word, the future.  Operating in good faith and actually providing a donation of funds in exchange for one’s works, life, talent, struggles can be dicey as there is always more “takers” than “givers” in the world these days.

Well, enough preaching, as what I really wanted to get across is that you can visit Colby Stead on his website here and you can then have the opportunity to put yourself on the scales of giver/taker and offer up some cash in good faith (or not, it’s totally up to you) in exchange for a massive amount of music.  I think there is around 40 “demos” and two full length albums available!!  I have personally donated and taken advantage of Colby’s “Old Home Recordings” and even received a personal email back to thank me – class act I must say.  The “demos” that I have listened to so far might be a bit rough around the edges and possibly a stripped down version of a final product but there is more than a few keepers.  You gotta find something you like in that much music…I know I have.

I hope you get a chance to swing by, listen to some music, donate if you like.  To try and persuade you to visit, I have included a couple of tracks below to show you what is available over on Colby’s site, now go on..git.

Thanks for listening.
