This is all tongue in cheek, but take a listen to the two clips below – I have not tagged them with the artist so you can’t tell what it is (or you can easily tell). One clip from and album released over 20 years ago, and one from an album released, well…not even released yet!
Too. F’n. Funny.

p.s. I am not going to spoil it, if anyone wants to actually say who each is, can do so in the comments – if you must. Still funny though.

Let me know when you give out the answer. I’m stumped.
The first one (1986) is Bon Jovi – Wanted Dead or Alive
Don’t know who the more recent is and I they sound similar but no close enough to be plagiarism.
Well we have one noted for you so far Allan…
@Steve – yes, tongue in cheek – I wouldn’t go so far as to advise Richie Sambora to hire counsel quite yet. But still.
Anyone else going to chime in for the other band?
well well. The 2009 track is from the new Decemberists album!! Maybe a Bon Jovi tribute in the works? Ha!
It’s clear what has happened. Colin, on the quest to build his epic Concept Rock Opera, was out a lost on how to transition to a song…. scared that the whole “house of cards” may fail, he did, what we all swear we’ll never do, but ultimately have…. we plagiarized Bon Jovi by picking notes in a similar chord progression!
DAMN YOU BON JOVI!!!!
You are what the Simpsons are to animated comedy television! Simpson Did It! Bon Jovi did it!!!
We are all damned.
@Tsuru – would not have been able to say it better, plus I simply couldn’t bring myself to admit it…
EDIT – Just so everyone knows – Clip One is “Margaret in Captivity” from The Hazards of Love upcoming album from The Decemberists. And yes, Clip Two is “Wanted, Dead or Alive” from Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet album back in 1986!
