In The Post & Your Recommendations – Vinyl deliveries to Slowcoustic HQ required!

Blank Vinyl

So I am just starting my vinyl collection as I started it prior to actually picking up a new (media station friendly) turntable.  Well, actually the wife bought me one that I can rip directly to my iTunes, so it sits next to my computer and doesn’t enjoy the front and centre location it deserves.  I mention this as I am just starting to purchase more and more vinyl, usually ordering 1 a week or so.  This might not sound like much, but I am not necessarily collecting all the great albums of the past that every collector feels they require when beginning.   I am also not going to get started on sound quality and “hipster quotient” scenarios involved – lets just leave it at the fact that I still buy physical media.  I am just looking for a good to great record that needs a new home with a few good friends.

Just last night I received the 7″ limited vinyl (#288 of 300, thank you very much) of Elephant Micah’s “In Midnight / Ocean Floor” which came on the heels of the freshly pressed limited vinyl (#93 of 160, if you have to ask) of Elephant Micah’s “Exiled Magicians” that arrived last weekend.  All this came after my copy of J. Tillman’s “Year In The Kingdom” arrived 2 weeks ago, and just after I pre-ordered the new 7″ Tillman release from Western Vinyl.  Well, that is the last 3 weeks and I am at a loss of what will be next.  I am looking for suggestions from you fellow bloggers and readers of Slowcoustic – you come here for the same music, so what are you buying and what should I be buying?  I don’t want anyone to start recommending 12 LP box sets as albums alone can be up to $30.00 with delivery to my door!

So the task at hand is for you to post in the comments of what should be my next purchase!   I have an idea on one already, but I need to have a bit of a push to take the plunge to the old paypal account.  Just a few last words of advice, do not recommend an aging rocker gone soft or young folkster gone rock.  And for all that is holy, please no Lady Ga Ga suggestions either.

“In Midnight”
“Ocean Floor”

(the digital download is available free on his website, among many others)

Visit Elephant Micah on his website HERE to order a copy of the vinyl (if they are any left) and pick up more available mp3s.

Visit Western Vinyl for a “pre-order” of the new J. Tillman 7″ vinyl by clicking HERE.

oh. i love vinyl and bought these three as well. all great. yesterday i just unpacked the new tiny vipers on vinyl. came out finally. so i would propose this, as it’s my latest and one of my favorites of the year. (by the way. this item is way overpriced, but it’s limited and handmade, so i bought it anyhow)

hmm…because I think you know all the music I know and surly a good amount more it is a bit hard to give recommendations. But I think you really should buy the “Seasonal Sevens” 7” from Autumn Ferment Records. I also ordered the Mike Hale LP “Lives Like Mine” on clear/black vinyl that sounds and looks just beautiful (but maybe this is the rocker gone soft-category ;) Molina and Johnson is a must have (alone because of the great cover artwork) and the Daniel, Fred & Julie is a double must have. The Mountain Man 7” coming in January will be awesome and Haruko on vinyl is just like dreaming. As I said, you know all the music mentioned but I really think it is a good thing to have it on vinyl. Have a nice day.

Great news about the new J. Tillman 7″. I had no idea that was coming out. Not being much of a vinyl man myself, I don’t have much to recommend. I do own the “In Ocean/Midnight Floor” 7″, but that’s about it. If you don’t have Jason Molina’s ‘Pyramid Electric Co. (which is only available in vinyl with a CD insert), that’s definitely a must-have.

@RL – Just received my J. Tillman 7″ after work today and Orange got his last week. I guess it isn’t really a “pre-order” anymore!!

Molina vinyl can never be bad either…I have a couple Songs:Ohia because EVERYONE NEEDS SONGS:OHIA VINYL!

lol…I just ordered the “Songs: Ohia”, “Axxess & Ace” and “The Lioness” LPs without knowing about your last comment….strange things happen at slowcoustic hq…I had them just in mp3 format and thought it would be time to buy them for real.

and one band you must have on vinyl too is Low…but maybe this could get very expensive…I have to look out for the Low vinyl myslef and I really don’t know which albums were released as LPs…but “Long Division” on vinyl would be amazing :)

found another must have (at least for me): the vinyl only “Funtown Comedown” by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. http://www.dragcity.com/products/funtown-comedown Great free mp3 track over at drag city. this record will rock.

    p.s. found “Long Division” by Low for 250 Euro…I mean…what the *u**! …25€ ok, but this…sight

I haven’t picked it up yet, but I imagine the reissue of Neil Young – After the Goldrush is going to be amazing.

I just purchased a copy before the reissue and it sounds fantastic. (even though you’re not concerned with the audiophile aspect of vinyl)
