Coming Back Home by Zachary Lucky

So I have become a very large fan of Zachary Lucky over the past couple of months.  Honestly, I didn’t know too much about this Saskatoon talent prior to the push for his most recent record “Come & Gone” from this summer.  The album is one of my favourites of the year hands down.  The songs crafted are both infectiously catchy and immensely beautiful from the second you press play.  Whether it is the harmony created or lone troubadour vibe, it just does something for me.

The new album has a song called “Coming Back Home” and it has been working it’s way for a bit in Lucky’s bag of tunes and has been a keeper from day one…I am sure of it.  I thought I would feature this song as you can hear 3 streams of the song from Lucky’s Bandcamp page (or below) – it shows a more banjo influenced stripped down version (Second Take version) along with a more polished version from the same EP next.  You then end on the newest version from the recent album that has buffed up the song, filled it out and left it shimmering in all its greatness.  All three are fantastic, which one do you prefer?

So please take a moment and hop over to Zachary Lucky’s Bandcamp page and pick up his new album (or previous 2 EPs for that matter) – they are all more than worth it.

Great post. I like doing this with songs. I used to think that first versions always had to be best, because that is where the artists original feelings of the song were put down, plus I’m a sucker for stripped down versions. But…as you can see, some songs improve with age. My original vote for this song was for the “Second Take” version, mainly because I love the banjo, but he sneaks in the banjo beautifully on the final version. Soooooo….I like them all. Thanks for letting me ramble.
