Friday Discoveries

So this post is going to be easy as it is full of artists that I am not very familiar with.  I intend on listening to each one a bit more (of what they have to this point) as each one shows a lot of potential to become regulars on my personal playlists.  Come to think of it, I actually don’t see much presence on Hype Machine/Elbo.ws for these artists…I then leave this with you readers of Slowcoustic, spread the word.

~~~
First I give you Blaudzun from the Netherlands with a track “Blindspot” from his currently released self titled album.  On this track he has a bit of a Thom Yorke with better pronunciation.  Visit his MySpace page to hear a few more tracks and try to figure out what his real name is and why he records music as a “unknown” Danish cyclist.  Click on his photo below to visit the Blaudzun MySpace page.
~~~

Next I have the track “Honey” from the San Diego, California band BoomSnake from the new album “Give and Take”.  I find the music of BoomSnake to be on the more indie-experimental side of the spectrum – they are a little hard to classify.  They have mellow folk songs, some post-rock stuff and top it off with up tempo indie-pop tracks.  Click on the photo of Boomsnake to visit their profile page.

~~~
Last but not least is The Moonband from Munich, Bavaria with the track “Days to Live” from their EP entitled “Funerals and Duels”.  Other than recently opening for the great Bowerbirds, I am really out of info on this group (even their MySpace page is only in German).  I might have to make a request of my German connection for all things music to get more info…but for now click on the lime to visit the Moonband’s MySpace page.
~~~

Enjoy your Friday everyone, and I hope for those that haven’t heard of the above bands, that you take the time to visit their websites, profiles and drop them a line and show them some love.

    Blaudzun is Johannes Sigmond and a cycling fan. He had read about the Danish guy somewhere and just liked the sound of the name… Story on the flamingo is more interesting though, but I’d mess up translating so mail Johannes I’d say or go and learn some Dutch :)
    Have a nice weekend!

    Thanks for the update Leentje! I am still a bit rusty on my Dutch…I better just enjoy my weekend instead of figuring out all those flamingos…

    “Days to Live” is on repeat this Saturday morning. I would learn German for this band!

    I took the liberty of translating the Myspace-info on The Moonband…

    The Moonband was founded in 2006 in the process of various group house sessions. In the beginning various musicians were meeting another spontaniously at events like the singer-songwriter circle – a Munich area open folk session. The members [of the Moonband] are no unknowns. In an article on Cobbler’s Irish Pub, the Folker [German music magazine] e.g. described Christian Begusch (guitar/vocals) and Andreas Henningsen (upright bass), also well-known as bass player of “The Ruby Sea”, as the foremost newcomers of the region. Eugen Kern-Emden (guitar/banjo/vocals) is also known as frontman of folk-rock group “The Ruby Sea” as well as ex-bass player of Irish folk legends “Fairytale” and Kathrin Bobek (mandolin/guitar/vocals) complete the quartet. Playing live the band presents own songs as well as covers from the genres americana, singer-songwriter and folk. At the moment the Moonband is working on their debut album. We recommend to listen closely when taking your next walk on the shores of river Isar [Munich river]. Maybe you chance upon that music making bunch, when fighting against the transitoriness of time for another evening.

    Cheers,

    the German connection
