Saturday “songs from a distance” Post: The Smiles and Frowns & Alasdair Roberts

Today’s post features two bands/artists that both come from very different locations and distant from myself.  Thinking of other locations this morning I guess.

The first song from Phoenix, Arizona is actually a bit more “up tempo” but it totally catches your ear and brings back thoughts of simpler times and maybe is just relaxing as much as it is “folk-pop”.  I dunno, it immediately feels familiar, not in a copyright-infringing way but in a warm like weekend morning in bed.  Something like that.  People, I provide you with The Smiles and Frowns!

This next track is along the same lines as the above song, in a sense that it is also familiar but more so in a sub genre of music that could be called “traditional folk”…more or less.  At least from across the vast ocean blue I suppose.  This Scottish “Wyrd Folk” performer crafts songs that are also familiar to the TSAF track in the way that it feels as if it spans decades of folk while still being relevant today.  It might not be the hip indie track for summer 2010, but at least you are not going to forget it come September.  Please enjoy:
